Stress is such a big word these days, isn’t it? It’s the disease of the 21st Century. Everyone is always stressed about something and everyone else is writing blog posts about how to reduce stress, or end stress altogether.
Here is something you probably didn’t know. You need stress to function. Stress is not an illness or a symptom of something bad going on in your body. It’s just a way of your body reacting to external aggressions. In a nutshell, it might just be what allows you to survive. If it weren’t for stress, you wouldn’t be able to run away from a potentially dangerous situation. We may have evolved but there are parts of our DNA that haven’t caught up yet. It takes time.
Does this mean it’s okay to feel stressed all the time? No, not exactly. As a life coach, my job is to help people understand when they are blowing things out of proportion and fretting about very small events. A certain amount of stress is good when you need to kick-start a project, for example. But it’s dangerous if you make a big deal when you forget to buy milk and have nothing in the morning to eat your cereals with. It’s about perspective.
Since most my clients have a hard time to visualize all of this at once, I always start the coaching sessions with what I call the “organic Chaga tea soft opening”. Cultures who drink tea have a whole ritual around it for a reason. It’s meant to train patience and delayed gratification (something we could definitely use in our lives).
At the beginning of the session, we don’t talk. I brew two cups of Chaga Earth’s wild Chaga mushroom tea and we meditate together. And meditating can be anything from repeating a set of mantras in your head to letting your mind wander. I confess I’m a fan of wandering minds because that’s when my creativity runs free. The wild Chaga tea benefits include properties that allow your body to restore. It’s kind of like a power boost, a reset if you will. This allows you to get your body in the right gear before you start your day, or a new project, or your coaching session with me.
So far, I haven’t heard any of my clients tell me that Chaga Earth tea hasn’t helped them cope with stress in some way. They’ve all become fans, especially of the loose tea (it adds detail to the whole ritual).
