I always had pets growing up and I wanted my kids to have the same experience, but my husband had had a very bad experience as a little boy. His parents would allow him to have dogs, but wouldn’t allow them to come inside the house. Since the weather wasn’t an issue, the dogs weren’t uncomfortable outside. But, somehow, they never lived for as long as mine did. I don’t think he knows about it, but I think maybe his folks didn’t pay much attention to keeping the dogs healthy.
In my household, things were dramatically different. My dogs were so pampered they even got their own Christmas gifts and birthday parties (true story). Granted, my sister and I were the only attendees of these birthday parties, but still. They were loved and when they passed away of old age, we would honor them accordingly.
My kids started begging to have dogs ever since they were little. They saw my old photos and old videos with my dogs, and they loved all the stories and the memories. They truly wanted to have dogs out of love, but my husband feared they would be hurt if the dogs died too soon because we failed to take care of them.
My oldest was always the most stubborn of the three kids, so one day when she was 10, she asked my husband if he could take her to the dog pound for a school project. According to her, she needed to write an essay about helping others and she wanted it to be about abandoned dogs. Now, I don’t know if that’s what her teacher meant, but she got her way. I don’t know exactly what happened that day, but they came back with the cutest puppy. His health had been checked and he was strong and feisty. I think that and my daughter’s pleading were enough to convince my husband.
I guaranteed him that we would be extremely careful with his health and that we would shower him with love. I had read about the organic Chaga benefits for dog’s health and I knew Chaga Earth had a new line of dog biscuits made with organic Chaga tincture, so we would get that. We were going all-natural and all-organic with the supplements for this puppy. As a family member, he would have the same supplements as we did, except we had organic Chaga tea, not biscuits, of course.
This was one year ago, and my husband just threw his first birthday party for a dog.
